The German rail operator (EBA) requires that all adhesive work on trains and trams be performed in accordance with DIN 6701.
Adhesive suppliers must also be qualified
Adhesive suppliers to major train manufacturers are required to be certified just as much as the train manufacturers themselves. Class A3 bonds are an exception, with a distinctly low risk of personal injury in case of failure. For this type of bonding, one must work according to DIN 6701, but certification is not required. To perform bonded joints at level A1 & A2, the company must be certified.

The qualification of companies that perform adhesive bonding processes is carried out by a so-called Recognized Body, RB. At present, there are two (German) organizations that have been approved by the EBA as RB:
The preparation to achieve qualification is one of the main activities of Makiba. We guide the company in the further development of its quality system, company instructions and work instructions and their compliance. The involvement and associated costs of the RB regarding the final qualification can therefore remain minimal.
Following this initiative by the EBA, it is expected that DIN 6701 will be required throughout Europe in the rail industry within a few years. Additionally, the quality guideline DVS 3310 will also form the basis for further standardization in other sectors that make adhesive bonded connections.
