Inspiration
This week was dedicated to the first EAE-Refresher training at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen from May 26-28, 2014. With 30 EAE-qualified engineers (approximately 9% of all EAEs trained at IFAM over the past 14 years), it was a well-attended event. The training proved to be an excellent balance of repetition of previously covered material and new topics. In the review section, the revised treatment of the "Adhesion" topic stood out in particular. The depth that Professor Possart previously brought to this topic proved to be quite challenging for many EAE participants. Now that this topic is presented in a different way, many experienced EAE participants have an even better understanding of which adhesion models are available and how they can help us further understand this phenomenon.
The new topics included:
- PASA® (Pre Applied Structural Adhesive)
- Light-plas Technology (activation with radiation with a wavelength smaller than 200 nm; the VUV range)
- Bonding of structural wood joints
- Adhesive bonding on painted surfaces (automotive, rail and tram construction, and shipbuilding)
