Nightmare for adhesive experts
All Ferrari 458 Italia's built before 30 July 2010 must return to the dealer. Ferrari is modifying a heat shield at the rear of the car to prevent fires.
Several 458 Italia's have been completely destroyed by fire, as evidenced by spectacular photos on Wreckedexotics.com. The fires always started at the rear of the car. The problem is due to the heat shield on the rear wheel arches, for which Ferrari used an adhesive that is apparently not resistant to the extreme heat of the exhaust system.
Solution
Ferrari is now installing a new heat shield with rivets instead of adhesive. For this free improvement, 1,284 Ferrari's must return to the dealers.
